Bouygues Travaux Publics has been awarded its third contract in Hong Kong this year, “Contract No. ED/2018/04 – Trunk Road T2 and Infrastructure Works for Developments at the Former South Apron” from Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD), the Government of the HKSAR. The estimated HKD10.9 billion contract (including provisional sum) covers the design, construction and commissioning of the Trunk Road T2 between the Central Kowloon Route at the Former South Apron of the Kai Tak Development, and the Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel. The main scope includes the construction of a 3.4km dual two-lane trunk road, ventilation buildings, electrical and mechanical services, and other associated works. The contract is scheduled for completion in 2026.

The construction will adopt Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) excavation, cut-and-cover, drill-and-break, drill-and-blast methods. This project will feature the application of various innovative technologies, including accessible TBM cutter head and slurry confinement cross passage TBMs with precast pipe jacking systems. Also, due to space limitation for TBM launch at the Former South Apron of the Kai Tak area, a twin – circular (“Peanut”-shaped) shaft will be constructed to launch the TBM.

The Trunk Road T2, together with Central Kowloon Route, will form the crucial parts of Route 6. This strategic road network will provide an east-west express link between West Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O, bringing a relief to the heavily congested road network in eastern and western Kowloon as well as Tseung Kwan O areas.
