10 January 2012
Dragages Hong Kong Limited is pleased to announce it has just been awarded its second contract in the Kai Tak Development Area (KTDA). The HK$2.04 billion contract from the Architectural Services Department is for the design and construction of the 22-storey Trade and Industry Tower, which will house a community hall, a government bureau, and a number of government departments. The building will set new standards for energy-efficiency and greening in Hong Kong, including the use of sophisticated new technologies and vertical greening.
“This is another landmark project for Dragages Hong Kong,” remarked Nicolas Borit, Managing Director of Dragages Hong Kong Limited. “The Trade and Industry Tower is set to become an iconic addition to the Kai Tak skyline. Its commitment to the highest standards of energy-efficiency is the perfect complement to our own track record as the market-leader in sustainable construction practices. We are also honoured that this is our second contract in the Kai Tak Development Area, a vibrant new district that will undoubtedly become an international showcase for Hong Kong’s visionary urban development policies.”
The full scope of works for the contract include the design and construction of the foundation, substructure, superstructure, finishing works, building services works, landscaping works, interior design, fitting-out works, and way-finding facilities for the whole development. The total construction floor area is approximately 66,600m2.
The project will be certified under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification programme, which will incorporate many of the latest energy-efficient designs and technologies.
Renewable energy technologies will include a photovoltaic system, solar hot water system, solar chimney and daylight suntubes. In addition to lush landscaping on the ground floor, the covered elevated walkway and the main roof, the project will feature vertical greening on building facades. Overall greening will account for more than 30% of the total site area. In terms of recycling and other environmental features, the project will also use rainwater for landscape irrigation and adopt an automatic refuse collection system. Low-emitting materials will likewise be used wherever appropriate. In addition, the building will be connected to the District Cooling System (under construction) for air-conditioning.
The project is scheduled for completion in 2014.
