Dragages Hong Kong’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities reflect our ongoing commitment building a sustainable city. We actively support our charity partners throughout the year, both by fundraising and by participating in volunteer activities.

Year end and 2016 first quarter CSR activities

November:

Annual Fun Day 2015 – Designed to promote a spirit of partnership, this grand finale of the year’s CSR activities donated a total of HK$150,000 to our three charity partners, namely Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Charitable Trust (FSMA), Hong Chi Association, and Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth (HKFHY).

December:

FSMA Charity Raffle Tickets – A total of 1,700 tickets were purchased by staff at Dragages and our sister companies, AsiaWorld-Expo, BYME and VSL. Thanks to Dragages matching all contributions, the initiative raised HK$68,040.

January:

Christmas and Lunar New Year Gift Donation – Around 70 food gifts were donated by our staff. The first batch was distributed on 24^th January to the Hong Chi Tung Tau Hostel; which offers residential services to members with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.

Hong Chi CNY Celebration with Elderly Trainees – Dragages sponsored HK$11,000 for a fun-filled Chinese New Year outing at Repulse Bay. A total of 15 volunteers joined the event, which benefited 30 Hong Chi elderly trainees with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.

February:

Elderly homes spring cleaning – Our Liantang / Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point – Site Formation and Infrastructure Works – Contract 2 project team members joined hands with the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Tin Ping Neighbourhood Elderly Centre and AECOM (our supervising officer) to help nearby elderly households with their spring cleaning. The team not only did a thorough spring clean, they also hung up Chinese New Year decorations and distributed turnip puddings to show their care.

Hong Chi Flag Day (New Territories) – A total of 17 flag bags were quickly filled, raising HK$17,006 for our charity partner.

March:

FSMA Charity Golf Day – Dragages donated HK$24,000 to sponsor our four-member staff team.

Ongoing Sensory Garden project

Since 2015, Dragages Hong Kong has been leveraging its construction expertise to design and build a Sensory Garden for Hong Chi Winifred Mary Cheung Morninghope School (for children with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities). Through the stimulation of all five senses, the Sensory Garden will be a valuable new learning therapy facility.

Engagement will be the key to the success of this project. At the outset, we invited the school’s students to produce paintings based on the theme ‘space and planets’. Our mentor, Abigail Tam (architect), is working with Adeline Chan (a recent-graduate designer) to incorporate these paintings into the design of this one-of-a-kind project – a multi-sensory garden jointly designed by both its builder and its users.

Other key project members are Daniel Chau and Thomas Bleu – from Dragages; Herrick Chu – from BYME.

What’s next?

• A HK$15,000 sponsorship allowed Hong Chi Children’s Home to go on a cultural tour of Tai O in April, benefiting 40 children with intellectual disabilities.
• The FSMA 18^th Anniversary Celebration Party will be held at Disneyland on 7^th May, with a HK$50,000 sponsorship.
