The Secretary for Labour and Welfare, Mr. Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, together with representatives of the Labour Department and the Highways Department, visited “Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link – Northern Connection Sub-sea Tunnel Section” project work site on 7^th October.

Project team members and consultants walked them through our project features, work methods and safety measures. Cutting-edge in-house technologies adopted in the Tunnel Boring Machine, which maximise the health and safety of our colleagues, were highlighted during the presentation and site walks.

“It has been my major concern as we have been moving into unchartered waters in terms of Hong Kong’s technology for TBM. So we are testing the limit ourselves. Through collaboration with the departments concerned, with the contractors, the consultants, I’m pretty confident that we can achieve zero tolerance in terms of occupational safety. I’m sure that we can do it. It’s all a question of making sure that we don’t take chances. Life is always most important. Nothing is more important than lives and safety.”
