Setting a New Standard for Site Safety: Lung Shan Tunnel
08 October 2015
On 18th September 2015, our project team received the Gold Award in the Lighthouse Club Safety Project Team Award. Driven by our motto, “The Safe Way is the Only Way”, here at Dragages Hong Kong we believe that safety is the responsibility of each individual. Winning this Safety Project Team Award is a reflection of our commitment to 360-degree safety – from top management to frontline colleagues; from the client to subcontractors.
Our great team spirit and strong leadership, coupled with thoughtful safety tactics, helped us stand out from the 49 projects nominated for this award. In particular, the Panel of Judges praised the strong teamwork between the Client, Consultant, Main Contractor and Subcontractors, as well as the risk-based approach in addressing safety issues on site. Strong leadership and collaboration between the Client and the Project Management Team also enabled much greater synergy, and played a pivotal role in tackling site safety challenges.
The project team reached a number of major milestones in early 2015. These included the construction of a temporary steel bridge above an existing railway line, which demanded seamless coordination with the railway operator and neighbours because the installation of the six metal beams was only possible within a two-hour window over a period of just two nights. Another testament to the team’s meticulous planning and high precision was the delivery of TBM parts along 45 kilometres of crisscrossing trunk roads, busy thoroughfares and narrow roads.
Despite the extraordinary complexity of works and coordination with multiple interfaces, such as railway operators, villagers, and neighbourhood construction parties, the project team achieved no reportable accidents for a consecutive 1.65 million man-hours.
